UMCU Emergency Room
How to improve service and safety for the patient?
Updating patients’ files is a time consuming process that delays the availability of current medical data to other healthcare professionals, sometimes up to 24 hours after treatment.
The challenge
Create an environment to ensure that all medical data is directly available to all professionals involved in an instant, using an intelligent combination of existing and proven technology. The current Emergency Rooms have limited space for additional hardware, so the solution needs to be implemented within the existing infrastructure.
The solution
While brainstorming on the solution, we defined criteria to work with:
Real-time sharing of patient data, input through voice, audit the medical activity trail, track patient location, prevent patient-medication mismatches and the most important one:
Easy to use, Timesaving, Safe!
Wireless, RFID and speech-recognition fully integrated using Biztalk for data exchange would do the trick.
The result
The Wireless Emergency Room was implemented at the UMC Medical Center and proved its case. The Wireless Healthcare Solution provides:
- Current data regarding treatment, monitored vital signs and patients’ location;
- Audit trail of medical activity;
- Easy to use, minimal manual intervention;
- Redundant safety: patients and medication are RFID tagged:
- Integration with Ambulance, Hospital and Insurance systems.
The team of Solution partners are CISCO, Crossing Channels, HP, Intel, Microsoft.
Customer Quote:
"Prior to the Crossing Channels solution, sharing medical information was often unreliable.The Genie .NET
Framework now allows life-saving information to get into the hands where it can be used effectively.”
